Delbert "Del" Sievers
March 6, 1934 - September 21, 2016Delbert "Del" Sievers, age 82, of Arnolds Park, Iowa, formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at the Lake Park Care Center.
A son of Otto and Lenora (Minden) Sievers, Delbert Arlo Sievers was born on March 6, 1934, in Storm Lake. Growing up, he attended school in Storm Lake and graduated from Storm Lake High School. While in school, he enjoyed playing football.
After graduating, Del enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from 1954 to 1956 during the Korean Conflict. On April 22, 1956, upon his return home, he married Carol Ann Murphy of Newell, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children: Kimberly and Paul. Employed by IPS, he worked as a line foreman for forty-five years before he retired. A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, he served as Sunday school superintendent. He, also, belonged to the Storm Lake Jaycees and the Elks Lodge.
In his spare time, Del enjoyed all water sports, especially boating and water skiing. He loved the outdoors, fishing and camping every weekend. In addition, he loved dancing. Most importantly, however, he treasured the time he was able to spend with family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Kimberly (Mitch) Quirin, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his daughter-in-law, Marcia Hoffard, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his grandchildren: Joshua (fiancée, Sandra Rogers) Quirin, of Des Moines, Iowa, Crystal (Adam) Spray, of Waterloo, Iowa, Caren Sievers, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Connor Sievers, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his great grandchildren: Mason, Nolan, and Olivia; his brother, Darold (Terra) Sievers, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his niece and nephews, Curt, Jill, and Mark; and his aunt-in-law, Frances Mennenga, of Belmond, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends. Del was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Lenora Sievers, and his son, Paul Sievers.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 26, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Sunday, September 25, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
