“Rich” Lorenzen, age 76, of Linn Grove, Iowa, died on September 8, 2016, at his home.

A son of Floyd and Lucille (Herrig) Lorenzen, Rich was born on March 1, 1940, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, he attended school at Highview until the sixth grade and then moved to Comfry, Minnesota, where he graduated from the high school in 1958.

On December 20, 1958, Rich married Edna Knudtson in Comfry, Minnesota. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children: Angie and Mitch. In Springfield, Minnesota, Rich worked for Englin Construction from 1958 to 1960. Then, he and Edna moved to Sioux Rapids where he worked for Phil’s Gas Station from 1960 to 1961. In 1961, they moved to Linn Grove where Richard started working for Merle Bertness as a hired farm hand, a job he held until 1963 when he started farming for himself in the Linn Grove area. He continued farming until he completed the harvest in 2009.

Rich had a longtime passion for farming. Since he could take anything apart and put it back together, he found joy in working on and restoring old cars. Later on, he developed a love for flying. Indeed, he would fly his plane often, making sure his grandchildren experienced the view from above.

Because of the depth of his love for his family, Rich will be deeply missed by his wife, Edna Lorenzen, of Linn Grove, Iowa; his daughter, Angie (Mark) Nielson, of Albert City, Iowa; his grandchildren: Sven, Suneva, and Thor Nielson; his brothers, Gordy (Karen) Lorenzen, of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, and Larry (Sherry) Lorenzen, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and his sisters, Pat (Jerry) Carter, of Belleville, Illinois, and Carol (Ron) Roiger, of Appleton, Minnesota; as well as by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, and friends.

Rich was preceded in death by his son, Mitch Lorenzen; his parents; Floyd and Lucille; his sister, Glenda Taylor-Huston; and his parents-in-law, Floyd and Lilly Knudtson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 12, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove. Burial will follow in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place Sunday, September 11, 2016, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
