STORM LAKE BUENA VISTA VIDETTE - Fri, June 14, 1907 - Again death has visited us and has taken one of our most respected young men from among us. Valentin Strock died in a hospital in Chicago on June 6th. He had been taken there for treatment for some tumorous affection of the brain but it was to no avail.

He was 38 years of age last January, was born in Germany coming to this country when a small boy. He leaves besides his aged parents, one brother John of Washington. His sister, Mrs Shaefer, died some years ago.

The funeral took place from the home in Storm Lake Saturday morning at 10, June 8th. Services were in the German language. The roads and weather kept many from attending but a good number were in attendance to pay the last tribute of respect.

The writer has known Valentine for many years, friendship has grown stronger as the years flew by, has found him to be a friend to be depended upon, an honest man and a good neighbor, have known it for a fact that many a day he has gone from his farm to his home in town a distance of 7 miles after a hard day of toil that he might be with his aged parents to care for them. When we find a boy this loyal to his loved ones we can but know that he was a good citizen and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Valentine has been a great sufferer since last fall bearing up under ill health, ever hoping to be spared to care for those who so much needed the care of a dutiful son but it was not to be and another little mound in the beautiful cemetery of Storm Lake marks his resting place. Though lost to sight, he is to memory dear. L.M. Holcomb
