STANTON, FREEMAN, PAXTON, LOGAN, SWEET, WILLOUGHBY

Ruthven Free Press - Wednesday, June 3, 1953 - Sarah Jane Freeman, daughter of Arnold and Ann Paxton Freeman, was born March 28, 1865 at Dodgeville, Wisconsin. She was the fifth child in a family of eleven, and when about 17, she came to Iowa to be near her oldest sister at Storm Lake. She worked there for several years and married Marlow E. Stanton April 9, 1890, at Storm Lake.

The family lived in Storm Lake a few years and then they moved to a farm near Fonda, returning in a few years to Storm Lake. After a short time there, they moved to a farm north of Terril. In 1907, they came to Ruthven which has been their home for 46 years.

Mrs. Stanton was the mother of two children, a son, Arnold, who passed away in 1947, and a daughter, Hazel, Mrs. Richard L Logan of Ruthven.

Mr. Stanton passed away in March, 1936.

About fourteen years ago she gave up her home and moved into an apartment in the Logan residence where she lived until about a year and a half ago, when illness forced her to move in with her daughter and son-in-law, where she lived until her death which came on May 27th, 1953, as a result of a stroke.

Mrs. Stanton is survived by her daughter and son-in-law and three grandchildren: Thomas M. Logan oŁ Newton, Mary Jean Sweet of Phoenix, Arizona, and Margaret Willoughby of Cedar Falls. There are eight great grandchildren.

She became a member of the Methodist church of Ruthven during the pastorate of Rev. Weikel. For a number of years, she served as communion steward. She worked in the Ladies' Aid and Woman's Home Missionary Society and was a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Ruthven last Sunday with Rev. D.H. James in charge, T.A. Christiansen presided at the organ and Mrs. Bernard Schroeder and Mrs. R.D. Workman sang "Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour" and "Beulah Land." John Thompson sang "The Lord's Prayer" as a solo. Pallbearers were Arthur King, R.S. Dana, Greg Johnston, H.A. Wagner, Ervin Miller and Iven Holmgren. Interment was in Storm Lake cemetery and in the committal service Rev. James was assisted by Rev. Burgess.

- Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Logan, Diane and Edward Lyle of Newton, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Willoughby, Cathy and Clark of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Homer Sweet and Timothy, Richard, Michael and Mary Ann of Phoenix, Arizona, were called here by the death of their grandmother Mrs Sadie Stanton.

Miller, Harold Stanton, Mrs. Grace Stanton, Mrs. Maude Daniels and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kavane, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Daniels, and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Daniels, all of Storm Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Harjes and Mrs. Corbett Prewett of Spencer, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rhinehart of Fort Dodge.
