Storm Lake Pilot - July 3, 1889 - Mrs May S Spooner, daughter of Mr and Mrs R.J. Fowler, died at her parents home in Washington township, June 24, 1889 of consumption of the bowels.

The particulars of Mrs Spooners death are short: she had been in unusually poor health for over two years. A severe cold aggravated a case of consumption of the bowels last January, ever since which time she has been bed fast and falling although they employed a number of doctors, both at home and abroad.

May Spooner was possessed of womanly qualities and attracted attention where ever she went by her generosity and kind heartedness. She taught school with marked success about a year until her health demanded a change. She was ambitions and energetic as well as of an independent spirit.

She was born in Black Hawk county, Iowa July 11, 1867 and lived with her parents until Jan 1, 1888 when she was married to Fred Spooner, when her trouble were deepened and increased instead of being lightened as they might have been if her husband had done what was right.

She leaves a father and mother, four brothers, and two sisters to mourn her loss which can never be filled here.
