Storm Lake Register - Sat, Jun 18, 1983 - Services Dorothy Skewis, 83, Storm Lake were held June 14 at the Methodist church. Burial was in the Storm Lake cemetery.

Skewis, a resident of Storm Lake since 1911, died June 11, 1983 at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

She was born May 10, 1900 to Charles and Myrtle Howe Skewis at Inwood and graduated from Storm Lake high school in 1917. She received a B.A. degree from Morningside College, taught in Greenville for one year, attended the Chicago Art Institute one year and taught in the art department at Cass Technical high school in Detroit for 29 years.

She received an M.A. degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and was head of the art department at Cass technical high school for many years. She retired in 1955 and taught at Buena Vista College for 13 years. From part time classes, she built an art department with two assistants.

Retiring from Buena Vista in 1968 she helped establish the Witter Gallery and organized the board to manage it. She helped found the Storm Lake Area Arts Council and was an active member of the Methodist church.

She is survived by two sisters: Beth (Mrs William Bradley) of Hendersonville, NC and Margaret (Mrs Rufus Rose) of Waterford, CT.
