Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Apr 20, 1923 - James Newell, son of John and Nancy Newell of Belfast, Ireland passed away at his home in Storm Lake, Thursday morning, April 12th, 1923. He was born in Belfast, Ireland and was in his 79th year.

When about 8 years old he came with his parents to the United States and settled on a farm near Dubuque, Iowa. Here he spent the early part of his life. Four years were spent in the copper mines at the Great Lakes.

On Jan 24th, 1885, he was united in marriage to Isabelle Gillrie of Eagle Harbor, MI. Later he returned to Dubuque where he lived until 1876 when he came to Sac county purchasing a farm near Early where he continued to live until 1909 when he retired from the farm and moved to Early.

In 1919 he purchased a home in Storm Lake where he resided until the time of his death. In 1915 Mr and Mrs Newell celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

To this union 8 children were born: John and Edith preceded him in death in childhood; Will A, Nov 1st, 1921.

Besides his beloved wife, he leaves to mourn his death three daughters and two sons: Mrs Sadie Rowley of Alcester, SD; Mrs Martha Cook of Newell, Iowa; Fred of Hastings, Iowa; James of Dakota City, Iowa; Mrs Pearl Domino of Nemaha; also two sisters and one brother: Frank of Storm Lake; Mrs Sarah Honzo of Hermon, MN; Mrs Mary Wilson of Cascade; and 18 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon. Interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery.
