Jo Ann Selleck
May 15, 1938 - April 15, 2016

Jo Ann Selleck, age 77, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, April 15, 2016, at her home.

Jo Ann Crary, a daughter of Corwin and Elma (Nelson) Crary, was born on May 15, 1938, in Cherokee, Iowa. Baptized and later confirmed at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, she attended school in Larrabee, graduating in 1956. Then, she furthered her education at Buena Vista College where she earned a degree in Elementary Education.

On June 12, 1960, Jo Ann married James Rowland Selleck at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children: Janet, Jeffrey, and Julie.

An active member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, Jo Ann served in numerous capacities including those of elder, deacon, Presbytery Resource Librarian, Church Librarian, Stephen Minister, and as a member of both Church Women United and Presbyterian Women as well as various others.

A teacher, Jo Ann worked at Sulphur Springs and Odebolt. She, also, worked at Siefer Consultants and Buena Vista University. In addition, she belonged to the American Scandinavian Foundation Chapter and the Witter Gallery Board.

More than anything, however, Jo Ann treasured her family. She and Jim made frequent trips to see their children and grandchildren. During these times, she simply loved to visit with family and coax people into taking a bike ride or going for a walk. Jo Ann and Jim were also frequent hosts for their family who loved to come back to the farm where Grandma always had a deep freeze full of everyone’s favorite desserts. All of the grandkids have many special memories of their time on the farm with Grandma and Grandpa. In her spare time, Jo Ann enjoyed biking and walking with Jim, especially around the lake, and they made frequent trips to Lake View and Okoboji. She, also, had a keen interest in genealogy and photography. Indeed, many community publications, frequently, included her photos. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of fifty-five years, James R. Selleck, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her children, Janet Puff, of Redondo Beach, California; Jeff Selleck (Ann Toohey), of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Julie (Mario) Pacifici, of Newbury Park, California; her grandchildren: Maria (Joseph) Morgan; Julia (Devin) Lee; James W. Selleck (Caroline Gravois); and Lena, Noah, Ava, and Caleb Pacifici; her great grandchildren: Emma and Colton Morgan and Devyn Lee; and her sister, Yvonne Amundson, of Cherokee, Iowa; as well as extended family members and many friends. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Corwin and Elma Crary.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Monday, April 18, 2016, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Lakeshore Center at Okoboji, 1864 Highway 86, Milford, Iowa 51351. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
