Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - November 18, 1904 - One of the saddest deaths which has occurred in Storm Lake for some time was the untimely taken off of Mrs John J Hughes last Saturday morning at 7:30. Mrs Hughes had been sick for some time and owing to the ravages of the almost fatal malady, Brights disease, the most skilled and loving care could do nothing to save her.

Anna May Olmstead, daughter of Mr and Mrs Nathan Olmstead, was born in Davenport Center, New York on May 17, 1870. She lived there until 1879 when she went to Illinois with her parents, coming to Sac county, Iowa two years later with them.

On New Years day 1892 she was married to John J Hughes and since that time she has made her home in this city. To Mr and Mrs Hughes were born four sons: John, William, David, and Harvey, the oldest of whom is near 12 years old and the youngest about 2 years. And it is to these motherless little boys that the sympathy of the entire community goes out. Mrs Hughes during her residence of 12 years in this city, has won the love and esteem of all.

Besides her husband and the four little boys, she leaves her parents, Mr and Mrs Nathan Olmstead of Sac county, her sisters: Mrs George Lewis of Sioux City, Mrs Charles Wright of Sac City, Mrs Williard Brickford of Hasting, Iowa, Miss Mamie Olmstead, Sac City, Mrs Lewis Davis of Minnesota and Mrs Edward Davis of Toledo Iowa; and her brothers: Curtis and Irving Olmstead of Sac City.

Funeral services were held at the Lakeside church Tuesday afternoon. Interment was made in a vault in the Storm Lake cemetery.
