June 7, 1934 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - (Newpaper has a picture of her}- Funeral services for Mrs Lucy DeLoss, former Storm Lake resident, who died at the home of her daughter Mrs W.C. Manska Monday evening at the age of 95 years, were held from the Hughes Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon. Interment was in the family lot in the local cemetery.

Lucy Samantha Wells, daughter of E.P. and Permilia Wells, was born in Hadlyme, CT Feb 21, 1839. She was educated in the schools of Connecticut and also attended Academy. When she was 17 years old she worked in a factory where fish oils were manufactured and later was a nurse in a hospital at Hartford, CT.

May 19, 1864 she was married to Robert DeLoss in New York. She was the mother of three children: Geogianna Permilia, who preceded her in death; Eugene Chris of Cherokee; and Gertrude Patterson? now Mrs W.C. Manska of Storm Lake.

She came to Iowa in 1871 with her son and daughter in the first caboose of the time. They came as far as Fort Dodge. Her husband had come here a few months earlier and was county ? here. Storm Lake was a small village when she came here in 1871 and she remembered all the hardships of early settlers.

She owned and operated one of the first millenary and dress making shops in Storm Lake. She enjoyed reading the newspapers and was very active.

She had 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

She passed away June 4, 1934 at the age of 95 years, 33 months and 11 days. (This digital copy of the newspaper was very hard to read.)
