Eldon Erlandson, age 94, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer.

Eldon LeRoy Erlandson, a son of Nels and Selma (Peterson) Erlandson, was born in Albert City, Iowa, on December 12, 1921. He lived his youth in the Albert City vicinity and received his education at the Albert City schools, graduating with the class of 1940. On December 7, 1944, he joined the United States Army. After serving in the South Pacific during World War II, he was honorably discharged on July 21, 1946.

On June 17, 1947, Eldon married Maxine Johnson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. Subsequently, their union was blessed with four children, Dennis, Don, Janet, and Jay.

Following their wedding, they lived in Albert City from 1947 to 1951 when they acquired the family farm. Eldon, then, resided on that farm from 1951 to 2014. He loved working the land as well as all other aspects of farming. In short, he had a lifelong passion for farming.

In 2014, Eldon moved to the assisted living facility in Albert City, but this last year, he resided at the Pleasant View Home.

An active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City, Eldon served on various church boards. In addition, for over sixty-nine years, he was a proud and dedicated member of the Albert City American Legion, and for over 40 years, he worked the Broom Factory during the Threshermen’s Celebration. Moreover, he served his community as a school board member for several years. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed attending all types of sporting events throughout the area.

Eldon’s life is honored and celebrated by his family which includes his children, Dennis (Paulette) Erlandson and Don (Barbara) Erlandson, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Janet (Mark) Harvey, of Owatonna, Minnesota, and Jay (Lu) Erlandson of New Ulm, Minnesota; his beloved grandchildren: Keith (Nancy) Erlandson, Judy (Nate) Jones, Marisa Erlandson and Luke Zweifel, Kayla (Rob) Cunningham, Jesse Harvey, Josie (Geoff) Meyer, Luke (Whitney) Harvey, Nichole (Kasey) Krager, Kali (Gabe) Afolayan, Alicia Erlandson, and Cory Turner; fourteen great grandchildren; and his sister, Eldora Schultze, of Marathon, Iowa; as well as by his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine; and his great grandson, Silas Meyer.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 18, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
