Chloe M. Specketer
Jun 23, 1936 - Mar 11, 2016

Alta, Iowa

Chloe M. Specketer, age 79, of Alta, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016, at her residence of rural Alta.

Chloe Marie (Walker) Specketer was born in Alta, Iowa, on June 23, 1936, to Everette and Helen (Peterson) Walker. Baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith, she sang in the church and school choirs. Indeed, because of her talents, music would play a major role in her life.

After graduating from Alta High School in 1954, Chloe went to work at the Buena Vista County Treasurer’s Office before marrying Dwaine Specketer on July 29, 1956. While Dwaine was serving with the U. S. Army in Germany, she moved to Champaign, Illinois, to live with her parents. After Dwaine returned, they moved to a farm near Hanover to begin farming. After the Lord called him home in 1994, Chloe continued to live on the farm until her death.

Chloe valued both her church and her music. For many years, she taught Sunday school and midweek classes. She loved to talk to people, and she always had a special “knack” for sending just the right card to just the right person when they needed support the most.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen (Van) Kemper and Everette Walker; her parents-in-law, Lester (Leone) and Esther Specketer; her husband, Dwaine Specketer; and her great grandson, Zailin Linke.

Survivors include her children, Darcy Stevens, of Denison, Diana (Chris) Niehaus, of Alta, Donna (Steve) Baxter, of Alta, and David Specketer, of Alta; her grandchildren, Jacob, Jahred, Joshua, and Sarah Baxter; Libby Linke, Andrew, Kathryn (Thomas), and Kimberly Niehaus; Darin Specketer; and Heather, Jennifer, and Kayla Stevens; and her great grandchildren, Amethyst, Kalenna, Christian, Michael, Andrew, Adia, Marley, and Allie; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church of rural Alta (Hanover) with the Rev. John H. Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour before the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Hour Ministries.
