Lorna Burnside
September 19, 1933 - February 17, 2016

Lorna Mae Caroline (Hoberman) Burnside, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, from Alzheimer’s with her husband and children at her side.

Lorna was born on the family farm north of Newell, Iowa, on September 19, 1933, to Louis and Minnie (Lussman) Hoberman. A graduate of Newell High School and life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, she taught a high school Bible class and actively participated in the Ladies Aid Society for many years.

On January 30, 1953, she married Robert Burnside, and to their union two children were born. A wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, farmer, and politician, she could very skillfully negotiate with others, and she, truly, enjoyed helping people. She served on many committees and worked for many years as a Buena Vista county supervisor. She knew no strangers and enjoyed visiting. Moreover, she loved traveling and supporting her family in their pursuits. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert Burnside, of Storm Lake; two children, Susan Burnside, of Lakeside, and Greg (Rhonda) Burnside, of Storm Lake; one brother, Arlo Hoberman, also of Storm Lake; several grandchildren, Nick Logan (Marnell Veracruz), of Florence, South Carolina, Ian (Crystal) Logan, of Bainville, Montana, Cate Logan (Vicki-Lynn Anderson), of Des Moines, Iowa, Raquel (Grant) Ita, of Waterloo, Iowa, and Lisa Burnside, of Des Moines, Iowa; her great grandchildren, Taylor McCullough, Nadine Veracruz, Trevor Goff, and Cian, Elise, and Owen Logan; as well as by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lorna was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Donna Hoberman.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, February 19, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
