Roy E. Balder – age 93, of Albert City, formerly of Pocahontas, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.

Roy Emanuel Balder, a son of C. Albin and Ruth (Quist) Balder, was born on July 5, 1919, at Albert City, Iowa. In 1937, he graduated from Albert City High School. During World War II, he served in the Air Transport Command Division of the U.S. Army - Air Corps from 1942 – 1945.

On January 6, 1945, Roy married Marjorie Stroup at Trinity Lutheran Church near Pocahontas. They, then, settled near Pocahontas where they farmed and raised their family. Marjorie passed away in 1984. On October 19, 1985, Roy married Dorothy Thevenin Miller. They lived in Pocahontas until 2005 when they moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota. In 2011, they moved to St. Charles, Missouri, where they lived for a year before returning to Albert City.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Albert City; his son, Dennis Balder, of Pocahontas; his daughters, Julie (Steve) Nix, of Littleton, Colorado; Janet (Robert) Bellows, of Pocahontas, and Betty (Jeff) Bollard, of Pella; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Balder, of Albert City; as well as several nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Arnold.
