Khammanh Manivong
March 7, 1941 - February 8, 2016

Khammanh Manivong, age 74, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, February 8, 2016, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Khammanh Manivong, a son of Thed Song and Lanoy Manivong, was born on March 7, 1941, in Laos. On September 9, 1963, he married Chanthy Mekdara. They were blessed with six children: Souksavanh, Latdavanh, Sisavanh, Amphayvanh, Daravanh, and Nancy (Maniphone).

In 1964, Khammanh joined the Royal Laotian Army to fight for his country during the Vietnamese War. He rose to the rank of Captain. From 1968 to 1975, he was a prisoner of war.

After coming to America, Khammanh worked as a general production worker at Tyson Foods for twenty years. He enjoyed being a part of the Storm Lake Laotian community. He, also, liked to sing and play soccer. Most of all, however, he dedicated his free time to his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Chanthy Manivong, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Souksavanh Manivong, Latdavanh (Vattana), and Sisavanh (Kengkai), all of Laos; Amphayvanh (DengKham) Khounlo and Daravanh (Nick) Lovan, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and Nancy (Kalvin) Riley, of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; and his grandchildren: Chaithip Kankham, of Laos; Sheldon Lovan of Des Moines, Iowa; Travis and Narissa Lovan, of Storm Lake, Iowa; Deena, Jaida, and Jace Riley, of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; and Kitana Riley, of Houston, Texas; many great grandchildren; and his brothers, Sun and Viengsay Manivong, of Laos; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Khammanh was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Song Manivong; and his sister, Thong Manivong.

Traditional Buddhist Rites will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be at a later date in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 12, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
