October 9, 1969 - December 23, 2015Maria Leticla Hurtado Lopez, age 46, of Fonda, Iowa, died on Wednesday, December 23, 2015.
Maria Leticia Hurtado, a daughter of Juan Hurtado Delgado and Juventina Gaitan Vazquez, was born on October 9, 1969, in Mexico.
On June 10, 1995, Maria married Moises Lopez in Mirandillas, Mexico. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children: Juan, Daniel, and Alan. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake.
A stay at home mother, Maria enjoyed reading and going on walks by the lake. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, and friend and will be deeply missed.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Moises Lopez, of Fonda, Iowa; her children, Daniel and Alan Lopez, of Fonda, Iowa; her parents, Juan and Juventina Vazquez, of Mexico; her sisters: Silvia Avina and Patricia Lopez and Cristina Mares; and her brothers: Juan Carlos, Enrique, Fernando, and Jesus Hurtado; as well as extended family members and friends.
Maria was preceded in death by her son, Juan.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, December 28, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Sunday, December 27, 2015, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Two Killed in Head-on Collision West of Newell

Two people died in an accident on Highway 7 Wednesday afternoon west of Newell.
Juan Lopez Hurtado, 19, was driving eastbound with his mother, Maria Hurtado Gaitan, 46, of Fonda. While Juan was attempting to pass another vehicle, his car skidded on the icy pavement into the path of a westbound vehicle. Both mother and son died at the scene. No one in the oncoming vehicle was seriously injured.
