Ronald M. Hoops, age 74, of Alta, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at his Alta residence.

Ronald Marvin Hoops was born on March 15, 1941, to Marvin and Lillian (Gebers) Hoops in Aurelia, Iowa. Confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta. he attended a country school near Holstein. He, also, attended school in Galva and at St. John’s in Hanover before graduating from Alta High School in 1959. Next, he joined the Army National Guard and served in the Reserves.

On November 10, 1963, Ron married Linda Sandine at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. They became the proud parents of two sons, Brian and Reas.

After Ron graduated from high school, he started farming and driving truck, occupations which he pursued throughout his life. In addition, he enjoyed drag racing, tractor pulling, riding motorcycles, coaching his son’s baseball teams, and attending his children's and grandchildren’s activities. An active member of the Alta United Methodist Church, he served at the church in many capacities.

Preceded in death by his parents and his parents-in-law, Ron is survived by his wife, Linda Hoops, of Alta, Iowa; his sons, Brian (Jen Kerns), of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Springfield, Missouri, and Reas Hoops, of Alta, Iowa; his grandchildren, Tanner and Brayden, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Rita and Sawyer of Springfield, Missouri; his sisters, Shirley (Lynn) Johnson, of Alta, Iowa, and Donna Hoops, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and his brother, Vernon (Liz Foreman) Hoops, of LeMars, Iowa; as well as by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2015, at 10:00 AM at the Alta United Methodist Church with the Rev. Remigio P. Panlaqui officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2015, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cherokee Regional Medical Center Hospice.
