August 23, 1917 - September 2, 2015Evelyn E. Henrich, age 98, of Newell, Iowa, died on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at the Newell Good Samaritan Society in Newell.
Evelyn E. Darling, a daughter of Charles and Elsie (Larimer) Darling, was born on August 23, 1917, in Douglas Township, Sac County, Iowa. In time, the family moved to a farm northwest of Newell and Evelyn graduated from Providence High School in Sulphur Springs, Iowa, in May of 1934.
On April 3, 1937, Evelyn married Wilbur Henrich in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children, Dennis and Coleen. They farmed the family farm southeast of Newell all their married life until they retired and moved to Newell in 1983.
A member of the Newell United Methodist Church until it closed, Evelyn, then, transferred her membership to the Storm Lake United Methodist Church.
Evelyn enjoyed crocheting, reading, gardening, tending her flowers, and playing cards. She and Wilbur enjoyed dancing and taking bus trips around the country. They took many. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, she valued time spent with family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Dennis (Donna) Henrich, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and her daughter, Coleen (Arvid) Baughman, of Newell, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jennifer Henrich, of Sioux City, Iowa, Amy (Tim) Hynds, of Sioux City, Iowa, Kristin Baughman, of Kent, Ohio, Dean (Dawn) Baughman, of Newell, Iowa, and Shannon (Sandy) Baughman, of Richmond Hill, Georgia; ten great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren; as well as many nieces; nephews; extended family members; and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Henrich; her parents, Charles and Elsie Darling; and her brothers, Kirby, Merlyn, Max, and Loren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 4, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
