Esther E. Jungemann
October 3, 1914 - April 16, 2015

Esther E. Jungemann, age 100, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Esther Elizabeth Jungemann was born on October 3, 1914, to Chris and Elsie (Christensen) Jensen on a farm near Cozad, Nebraska. Made a child of God through the water of Holy Baptism at Dane Lutheran Church, she was confirmed and publicly confessed her Christian faith on May 25, 1930, at Colman Lutheran Church, Colman, South Dakota. By the power of God’s Word, she remained in this faith until April 16, 2015, when He called her home to heaven.

Esther completed eight grades at the Public School in Flandreau, South Dakota. She, then, began working as a housekeeper. Always willing to serve others wherever needed, she, also, helped her sisters, Anna and Marie, with their families.

She married August Jungemann on November 10, 1937, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Egan, South Dakota. They celebrated fifty blessed years of married life in 1987. A tireless partner with August, she worked side by side with him on the farm, first in the Rembrandt area and then southwest of Storm Lake where they retired.

Active in her church, Esther served as Ladies Aid President at Redeemer Lutheran for many years. After moving to Iowa in 1947, she joined the Ladies Aid Society both at Zion Lutheran and Grace Lutheran.

Esther enjoyed her children and grandchildren and considered them true blessings from the Lord. She served as a wonderful example of forgiveness and sacrifice. Esther also enjoyed watching sports on television. She could be heard cheering on her St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes!! Blessed with good health, she was able to golf and bowl well into her 90s.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, four sisters, and her son-in-law, Larry McWilliams.

Those left to cherish Esther’s memory include her son, Wayne (Nadine) Jungemann, her daughters: Karen (Duane) Ploeger, Lucille (Gary) Whiteside, and Linda McWilliams; her grandchildren: Kevin (Sue) Ploeger, Kristi (Keith) Neumann, Kathy Hindt, Karla (Tim) Geyer, David McWilliams, Danny (Lori) McWilliams, Drew (Arron) McWilliams, Bobby (Sharice) Whiteside, and Selina Whiteside; twenty-four plus great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 20, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Sunday, April 19, 2015, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
