Wanda Roney
July 9, 1938 - March 1, 2015

Wanda L. Roney, age 76, of Alta, Iowa, died on March 1, 2015, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.

Wanda Lou Denekas, a daughter of Walter and Myrtle (Stout) Denekas, was born on July 9, 1938, in Jewell, Iowa. Growing up, she attended school in Jewell, graduating from Jewell High School in 1956. In 1961, she married Roger Ogland. Subsequently, they were blessed with one daughter, Lori. In 1973, she married Raymond Dairrel Roney. They, later, divorced in 1983.

Wanda enjoyed reading, doing embroidery, and completing word searches. Moreover, she loved helping at the nursing home, playing Bingo, and demonstrating her trivia knowledge. An avid fan of NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt, Jr., she spent her proudest moments, however, with her grandchildren, Tyler and Shelby. She let everyone know that Tyler worked as a meteorologist on TV and that Shelby did the paintings in her room. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Lori (David) Madsen, of Marathon, Iowa; her grandchildren: Tyler Roney, of Mason City, Iowa, and Shelby Blomberg, of Marathon, Iowa; two nieces, Sue Hoppen, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and Karen (Butch) Varrellman, of Chapin, Iowa; her nephew, Dean (Jeanette) Fish, of Phoenix, Arizona; and her aunt, Viola Read, of Northwood, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Myrtle Denekas; two sisters, Esther (Merle) Fish and Marjorie (Arnold) Bessman; two nephews, Dale Fish and Mike Bessman; her niece, Janice Ball; and her son-in-law, Gary Blomberg.

Graveside services will be held Friday, March 6, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will take place Thursday, March 5, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
