Glenn Thomas Harrington, age 94, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on March 9, 2015, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Glenn Harrington, a son of Brett and Emma (Knadel) Harrington, was born on September 26, 1920, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake where he, also, received his first communion, he attended school at St. Mary’s Catholic School, graduating in 1939.

On September 20, 1942, Glenn enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. Assigned to the West Coast Blimp Squad 1 as an Airship First Radioman, he was honorably discharged in November of 1945.

On September 10, 1947, Glenn married Ardis Jean Burger at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children: Cynthia, Vincent, and Leigh Ann.

Glenn worked at the Buena Vista County Engineer’s Office for over thirty-five years, overseeing all the paving of the roads in Buena Vista County. He retired in 1983.

A Commander at AMVETS Post #66, he, also, belonged to the Elks Club for over forty years.

An avid fisherman, Glenn, especially, liked fishing for walleyes. He enjoyed playing snooker at Max’s Cigar Store; he received a lot of pleasure from working in his garden; and he loved going south to Padre Island for the winter months and traveling to other places. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Cynthia Harrington (M.R.), of Omaha, Nebraska, Vincent (Pat) Harrington, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Leigh Ann (Gregory) Schriber, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his grandchildren: Matthew (Nancy) Harrington, of Wheaton, Illinois, and Alexander Schriber, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his great grandson, Jackson Harrington, of Wheaton, Illinois; and his sister, Patricia McKenna, of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ardis Jean Harrington; his grandson, Jeremy Winebrinner; his brothers, Ray and Edward Harrington; and one sister, Violet Frederick.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will take place at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake with full military rites. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 12, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
