June 11, 1921 - January 14, 2015

Doris J. Johnson, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Doris June Koons, a daughter of Harry and Jennie (Walrath) Koons, was born on June 11, 1921, on a farm in Scott Township, Buena Vista County. She attended country school at Scott Center through the eighth grade before transferring to Rembrandt High School where she graduated in 1938.

On October 11, 1940, she married Arthur E. Johnson, a son of Sam and Annie Johnson. To their union, three children were born: Dennis, Judith Ann, and Joanne. Art and Doris farmed until they retired. In 1982, they bought a home in and moved to Storm Lake.

Doris worked for two years at Bedel’s Pharmacy in Storm Lake and for twenty years as a nurse’s assistant at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center.

A member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Doris, actively, participated within the church circle. She really enjoyed making quilt tops for project groups.

In her spare time, Doris liked to play bridge and 500. She belonged to several card clubs. Most of all, however, she loved to spend time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Dennis (Sharon) Johnson, of Anthon, Iowa, Judy (Jim) Logue, of Wakonda, South Dakota, and Joanne (Tim) Petersen, of Lincoln, Rhode Island; her grandchildren: Stephanie (Kevin) Burtness; Lance (Gina) and Lon (Laurie) Johnson; Brian (Maureen) and Daniel (Shelly) Logue; Amanda (Nathan), Cameron (Sarah), and Kelly Petersen; sixteen great-grandchildren; and her sister, Margaret Bahl, of Chicago, Illinois; as well as extended family members and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters: Ruby Sangl, Annabel Reinders, and Louise Bork.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 16, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
