Conner Weiland, age 16, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, September 22, 2014, in Storm Lake.

Conner Cory Weiland was born December 17, 1997, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Cory and Melinda (Mullally) Weiland.

Baptized at and currently a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Conner received his First Holy Communion there as well.

Growing up, he attended grade school and middle school and was currently a junior at Alta-Aurelia High School where he played football.

A member of the Alta-Aurelia FFA, Conner had a passion for farming. Always involved in the daily chores, he even raised his own cattle. More recently, he started doing custom baling through his own company, Weiland Baling. Involved with 4-C Turkeys, he raised them with his family. A talented young man, he took on many projects such as restoring a tractor, welding, and making other repairs needed on the farm.

Conner had a contagious smile which could light up a whole room. He not only shared his smile with everyone, but he also shared his kindness and love with all of those he knew. Most of all, he dearly loved his family and friends. His brothers and his little sister were the sparkle of his eye. Remembered as a caring son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Cory and Mindy Weiland, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his siblings, Cade, Carter, and Makenly Weiland, also of Storm Lake, Iowa; his grandparents, Ordell and Mary Weiland, of Alta, Iowa; and Larry and Jo Ellen Mullally, of Marcus, Iowa; his great-grandmother, Jan Christensen, of Alta, Iowa; his aunts and uncles: Jody (Jim) Childs, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Tammy (Philip) Kempadoo, of Urbandale, Iowa, Missy (Dale) Simmons, of Hudson, Wisconsin, Melea (Jason) Raveling, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Mike (Stephanie) Mullally, of Woodbury, Minnesota; his cousins: Alex, Tanner, and Mari Simmons; Ben and Maddy Jo Raveling; Brayden and Aspen Mullally; Cara Kempadoo; and Mason Childs; as well as extended family members and many friends.

Conner was preceded in death by his great-grandparents: Clifford Christensen; Mike and Marie Mullally; and Ben and Loretta Gotto; and infant cousin, Piper Kempadoo.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, September 26, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Elk Township Cemetery in Alta, Iowa. Visitation will take place Thursday, September 25, 2014, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 8:00 p.m., all at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at MetaBank in Storm Lake in honor of Conner. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Tragic Death

A 16-year-old Storm Lake boy, Connor Weiland, died in a farming accident Monday after becoming entangled in a piece of corn harvesting equipment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Apparently, he was trying to clear a piece of equipment when he became entangled in the machine.
