Agnes Lyster Meseck, age 97, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, September 8, 2014, in Cherokee, Iowa.

Agnes Kathryn Meseck was born on August 14, 1917, in rural Shelby Country near Irwin, Iowa, a daughter of Andrew and Chesty (Axland) Anvick. Baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Irwin in September of 1917 and confirmed in the same church on November 19, 1933, she attended school in Irwin and Harlan. Later, she taught in the rural schools near Irwin and Avoca, Iowa. She also attended the School of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska, at the Methodist Hospital.

On December 25, 1944, Agnes married Frans Marion Lyster. To this union, three children were born: Carl Dean, Patricia Ann, and Eugene Allen. She and her husband, Frans, farmed for a number of years near Linn Grove and Schaller. Then, in 1958, they moved to Greeley, Colorado, where Agnes did a lot of private duty nursing along with fulfilling her obligations at home. Indeed, she loved her home and family and spent many hours playing the organ, singing, and caring for her family. In 1966, she and Frans moved back to Storm Lake where she continued her nursing career.

A member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove and active with the Ladies Aid, Agnes also taught Sunday school and Bible school and sang in the church choir. In Greeley, Colorado, and in Spirit Lake, Iowa, she joined the Immanuel Lutheran Church; in Storm Lake, she became a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

On December 13, 1986, Agnes married Paul Meseck in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Those left to cherish her memory include her remaining children: Patricia (Lynn) Friedrichsen and Eugene (Gloria) Lyster; her grandchildren: Jeff (Terri) and Loren (Amy) Friedrichsen; Brian (Karla) and Jeni Hansen; Kristine (Dan) Jensen; and Kevin (Lea Ann) and Brian (Heidi) Lyster; her great-grandchildren: Ella, Emma, Jacob, and Maddie Friedrichsen; Jailen, Jordan, Maddox, and McKenzie Hansen; and Addison, Beau, Cali, Cody, Sierra, and Tatum Lyster; as well as several nieces and nephews; extended family members, and friends.
