January 21, 1928 - July 4, 2014

Alice Vonnahme, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Early, Iowa, died on July 4, 2014, in Le Mars, Iowa.

Alice M. Pudenz was born on January 21, 1928, in Carroll, Iowa, a daughter of Albert and Rose (Wiederin) Pudenz.

Baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Mount Carmel near Carroll, she, also, received her first Communion there. In addition, she attended school at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and graduated from St. Angela’s Academy in 1945.

On May 24, 1949, Alice married LuVerne Vonnahme at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Reverend Peter Sturm officiating. Subsequently, they were blessed with five children: Neil, Mark, Tim, Alan, and Sue Ann.

A former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, Alice joined St. Mary’s Catholic Church after she moved to Storm Lake in 1987. She was a loyal guild member at both parishes and a member of Catholic Daughters of America. At one time, Alice worked as a Nurse’s Aide and then as a Home Health Care Provider. She, also, volunteered her time at St. Mary’s S.O.S. Thrift Store.

Alice treasured her family and was very grateful for the times she was able to spend with them. In her spare time, she enjoyed flowers and gardening, baking, travelling, and social gatherings with friends. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of sixty-five years, LuVerne Vonnahme, of Remsen, Iowa; her children: Neil (Denise) Vonnahme, of Redmond, Washington, Mark (Rosie) Vonnahme, of Le Mars, Iowa, Tim (Barb) Vonnahme, of Henderson, Nevada, Alan Vonnahme, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Sue Ann (Tom) Lastuvka, of Clive, Iowa; her grandchildren: Molly (Brandon) Bauer; Stephanie (Adam) Jones; Aaron, Michael, and Rachel Lastuvka; Jill (Alexis) Marmol; Adam (Sarah), Becca, Jeff (Nichole), Mason, Matt (Tara), and Morgan Vonnahme; her great grandchildren: Ella, Chase, and Kate Bauer; Jackson, Jaden, Tessa, and Taeya Jones; Skylar and Aspen Triplett; Addison, Andrew, Caroline, Courtland, and Sam Vonnahme; her brothers: Arthur (Millie), Ken (Karen), and Fred (Theresa) Pudenz; and her sister, Marian Boes; as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Rose Pudenz; three brothers: Paul, Walt, and Ralph Pudenz; two sisters: Thelma Timmerman and Irma Knobbe; and a daughter-in-law, Teresa Vonnahme.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place Monday, July 7, 2014, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., all at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
