January 16, 1928 - July 4, 2014

Troy Clapp, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on July 4, 2014, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Troy Richard Clapp, a son of Arthur and Ella (Claney) Clapp, was born on January 16, 1928, in Spencer, Iowa. He lived his youth on the family farm north of Linn Grove and attended Cornell School, graduating from high school in 1945.

On June 6, 1948, Troy married Betty Samuelson in Linn Grove. Together, they farmed north of Linn Grove. In 1985, the Iowa Poultry Association honored him as Egg Producer of the Year.

In 2011, they moved to Storm Lake to make their home.

An active member of his church, community, school board, and elevator board as well as a leader in the Fellowship of Christian Farmers, Troy enjoyed going to Mexico with the Fellowship of Christian Farmers for three years to build churches.

After he retired from farming, he began the “Old Farmer’s Workshop” to build, restore, and refinish furniture, activities he enjoyed. In addition, he worked at Faith, Hope and Charity in Storm Lake along with volunteering at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. He was a man of great faith and prayer.

He leaves behind his wife of sixty-six years, Betty Clapp, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children, Paula (Lowell) Bartels, of Beresford, South Dakota, and Paul Clapp, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren: Brent (Emily) Bartels, of Beresford, South Dakota, Janey (Erik) Case, of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Kristen (Geoff) Clark, of Orlando, Florida, Mark Clapp, of Marathon, Iowa, and Michele (Colin) Hogrefe, of Linn Grove, Iowa; three great grandsons, Landen Bartels and Carson and Conner Case; and his brothers-in-law, Lawrence Rusk and Robert Samuelson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many friends.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ella Clapp; one sister, Dorothy Rusk; one brother, Dwight Clapp, and three infant brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Barnes Township Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday, July 7, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
