H. Frank Taylor, age 97, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on April 26, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Frank was born on January 23, 1917, in the family home north of Storm Lake, Iowa, a son of Joseph Ferman and Harriet Elizabeth (Jordon) Taylor. Growing up, Frank attended school at Lincoln Lee School.
Following his schooling, Frank entered the United States Army on March 12, 1941, where he served his country during World War II. A member of the 707th Ordnance Company, he served in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on October 2, 1945.
On November 19, 1942, Frank married Wilma L. Walker in Dakota City, Nebraska. They were blessed with three daughters: Mary L., Donna M., and Shirley M.
A member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, he also belonged to the Hayes Township Farmers’ Club, the Storm Lake I.O.O.F. Lodge, Golden K, the Kiwanis Club, and the Buena Vista Chapter of the D.A.V. He was also a life member of the Alta V.F.W. Post #6172.
A lifelong farmer, Frank loved the land and enjoyed spending time outdoors. Moreover, he treasured his family and loved spending time with all of them. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include Wilma Taylor of Storm Lake, Iowa, his wife of seventy-one years; his daughters: Mary L. (Lory) Johnson, of Ankeny, Iowa, Donna M. (Robert) Miller, of Clarion, Iowa, and Shirley M. Laird, of Kansas City, Missouri; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews; extended family members; and friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Harriet Taylor; a brother; and three sisters.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m. with an Odd Fellows service at 7:00 p.m., April 29, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., April 30, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
