Glen Arthur Jesse
April 24, 1925 - April 05, 2014

Scottsdale, Arizona

Glen Arthur Jesse, 88, passed away quietly and peacefully on April 5, 2014, at Trinity Homes in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Glen was born on April 24, 1925, in Hayes Township to Arthur and Evelyn (Chindlund) Jesse. Baptized and confirmed at St John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, he attended Hayes School and graduated from Alta High School in 1942. There he met his future wife, Lois Lydell. They married June 17, 1947, and shared fifty-six years, working, traveling, and caring for each other.

Glen enjoyed the challenges of farming and spent his life raising a variety of grains in addition to cattle, sheep, turkeys, and hogs on farms to the south and later to the west of Storm Lake.

Always interested in learning something new, he earned his pilot’s license and bought his first plane, an Aeronca Chief, after selling a pen of hogs. Over the next sixty years, he logged more than 2700 hours flying around the Midwest and to southwestern and western states. In addition, he valued his conversations with others. He willingly asked questions and sought answers while serving on the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Board of Directors, the Alta Community School Board, and the Trinity Lutheran Church Council.

Glen will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him including his son, Paul (Donna), of Storm Lake, and his daughter, Diane Nelson (Gregory), of Ames; three granddaughters, Elizabeth, Rebekkah, and Stephanie; one great-granddaughter, Nishka; his brother, Bob, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and his sister-in-law, Carol Lydell, of Brookings, Oregon; as well as by his nieces, nephews, and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; his parents, and his sister, Lola Vesgaard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Foundation (Education Fund), 1525 W 5th St, Storm Lake, Iowa 50588.

Memorial Service: 3:00-5:00 p.m., April 27, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
