Gary R. Faust, age 69, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014. Gary was born in Alta on June 9, 1944, to Raymond and Nettie Faust. He graduated from Alta High School and the University of Northern Iowa.

Gary served in the US Army Special Forces for three years. After earning a Doctorate of Jurisprudence at Drake University Law School in 1973, he accepted a position at the former Council Bluffs Savings Bank where he worked as a Trust Officer and Vice President. In 1993, he joined the Stuart Tinley Law Firm.

Gary served on the Iowa Western Community College Board of Trustees for twenty-three years. In addition, he served on the Council Bluffs Community School Board, the Friends of the Council Bluffs Library Board, and the Council Bluffs Municipal Housing Board as well as with the Council Bluffs Public Library Foundation and the Council Bluffs Industrial Foundation,. Moreover, he was a Book Fellows member.

Gary is survived by his wife, Susan; his son, Craig, of Chicago; his brother, Lynn (Louise), of Alta; his sisters, Dolores (James) Ahrendt, of Sioux City, and Janice Muse, of Loveland, Colorado; and his brother-in-law, Jay (Sharon) Butterfield, of Storm Lake.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Iowa Western Community College Auditorium. Memorials may be made to the Council Bluffs Library Foundation and/or the Iowa Western Community College Scholarship Foundation.

The Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home and Crematory, 545 Willow Ave., Council Bluffs, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
