James W. Westholm
June 11, 1930 - March 28, 2014

James Willard Westholm, age 83, of Albert City, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014, at the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

A son of Arthur H. and Esther (Danielson) Westholm, James Westholm was born on June 11, 1930, at the family farm north of Albert City. Confirmed in the Evangelical Free Church and later baptized in the Evangelical Covenant Church, Jim graduated from Albert City High School in 1948. He had a lifelong farming vocation, taking pleasure in working the land.

Jim married Marilyn Soderquist on October 27, 1962, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with three children: Douglas, Dan, and Beth.

Jim highly valued his faith. He depended on the Lord’s strength each day, especially in recent years. A member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, he served on the church board, as Sunday school teacher, and as a member of the brotherhood. In addition, he enjoyed singing the hymns he had learned in years past. For many years, he also belonged to the Lion’s Club and Gideon International.

Jim was an avid Hawkeye fan, especially of the football team. People would recognize him coming down the street in his AC Hawk.

He found joy in spending time with his grandkids. Always interested in their latest activities, whether in music, art, or sports, he loved them dearly. He also enjoyed having coffee with his friends at the Crossroads. He had a special gift for making people smile.

His life will be celebrated and treasured by his family, which includes his wife, Marilyn Westholm, of Albert City, Iowa; his children: Douglas (Rebecca) Westholm, of Sand Creek, Wisconsin, Dan (Jill) Westholm, of Urbandale, Iowa, and Beth (Tim) Ingram, of West Des Moines, Iowa; and his cherished grandchildren: Derek, Brandon, Benjamin, and Danielle Westholm, of Sand Creek, Wisconsin; Sarah, Nathan, and Ryan Westholm, of Urbandale, Iowa; and Elijah and Gabriel Ingram, of West Des Moines, Iowa; as well as by extended family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kenneth; and his sisters, June, LaVonne, and Norma.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place on Sunday, March 30, 2014, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with the family present the entire time at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
