Lynne Claire Tyroler
March 20, 1941 - February 6, 2014

On a blustery March day in 1941, Lynne Claire Wilson came into this world as a daughter of Edward and Ethlyn Wilson in Pipestone, Minnesota. In time, she was joined by twin siblings, Lee E. Wilson and Lois E. Wilson. In 1942, the family moved to Estherville, Iowa, after her father enlisted in the United States Navy. They lived there with her maternal grandmother, Minnie Volding, while her father was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station. Several months later, Lynne's grandfather, Nels Volding, passed away, and her father was called back for the funeral services.

Because of a change in military regulations, her father, as the only son in his family, could no longer return to active duty. Before his discharge from the Navy, he worked in a meat packing plant. After his discharge, he found a job with Knapp and Spencer Wholesale Hardware. In 1944, the family moved to Storm Lake.

Lynne graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1959. Shortly afterward, she married Alan Purinton, who, subsequently, became an officer in the United States Air Force. Two children were born were to this union, Steven Jay Purinton in 1963 and Brian David Purinton in 1966.

Lynne continued her education and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of New Mexico. For a very enjoyable twenty-seven and a half years, she worked as a registered nurse at Western Missouri Medical Center, eventually becoming the Director of the Skilled Nursing Unit. A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she also belonged to the Red Hat Society.

Following Alan's death in 1983, she met and married James "Gus" Tyroler on September 8, 1984. Gus and Lynne continued living in Warrensburg, Missouri. They, also, traveled extensively in the United States and southern Canada. Most importantly, however, they helped raise three granddaughters, Mandy, Amber, and Sadie. Years later, Lynne and Gus were blessed with a grandson, Seth, and two more granddaughters, Emily and Molly.

In her later years, Lynne enjoyed watching her granddaughters, Mandy Weigand, who married and graduated from college with a Business Education Degree, Amber (Purinton) Engelhart, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree and married, and Sadie Purinton, who graduated from high school and joined the United States Air Force. Lynne also liked following the younger grandchildren as they continued to grow and learn.

Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, Lynne fought her illness valiantly for nearly five years before succumbing on February 6, 2014, while surrounded by those she loved.

She is survived by her husband, James "Gus" Tyroler; her two sons, Steven Purinton, of Warsaw, Missouri, and Brian (Jeanette) Purinton, of Chilhowee, Missouri; her siblings, Lee (Brenda) Wilson, of LeMars, Iowa, and Lois (Robert) Crouch, of Iowa City, as well as by six grandchildren, five nephews, and a host of longtime friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ethlyn Wilson; her grandparents, Nels and Minnie Volding and Walter and Mary Clare Wilson; and her nephew, Jon Wilson.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 10, 2014, at the Northside Christian Church with Pastor Sid Tiller officiating. Pallbearers were Steve Purinton, Brian Purinton, Aaron Engelhart, Josh Bushman, and Seth Roskop. Interment followed at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family received friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Johnson County Hospice, the Northside Christian Church, the Show Me Christian Youth Home, or the University of New Mexico Nursing Program. All can be left in care of the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, Missouri.
