Leona Doyel, age 95, of Newell, Iowa, died on January 10, 2014, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell.
Leona Etta Doyel was born on June 30, 1918, in Harlan, Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Pearle (Miller) Welsh. Growing up, she attended school in Harlan and graduated from Harlan High School.
On September 28, 1937, Leona married Elmer Doyel in Denison, Iowa. They were, subsequently, blessed with three children: Leroy, James, and Gary.
A member of the Varina Methodist Church, Leona also belonged to the UMW.
She enjoyed the Hobby Club, where she worked to create and make many craft items. In her spare time, she liked to go fishing, camping, square dancing, and traveling. Leona valued the members of her family, and she treasured the time she was able to spend with them playing cards and other games. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Gary (Marlene) Doyel, of Humboldt, Iowa, and James Doyel, of Mason City, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Judy Doyel, of Park Rapids, Minnesota; her grandchildren: Wendy (Michael) Bernier; Chad (Wendy), Guy (Minda), Jade (Sarah), Jason (Jennifer), Rodney (Leila), and Todd (Kimberly) Doyel; Tammy (Troy) Griese; Laura Lynne (Mark) Hartman; Amy (Jeb) Novak; and Jill (Darren) Oppman; her great grandchildren: Max and Sam Bernier; Angela, Andrea, Aubree, Brandon, Brayden, Harley, Jayden, Jessica, Josie, Justin, Kandace (Sam), Shelby, Travis (Kyra), Zach (Jamie), and Zachary Doyel; Jennifer (Jared) Hoffard; Aidan and Tristan Novak; Hanna, Levi, and Parker Koerselman; Heather, Nathan (Joy), Tanner, and Tyler Oppman; and Chrissie (David) Sanders; and her great-great grandchildren: Caliegh, Carter Mae, Cecilia, Cole, Chloe, Harmony, Jaylin, McKenzie, and Sam; as well as extended family members and friends.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Doyel; her son, Leroy Doyel; her parents, Dale and Pearle Welsh; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Doyel; and one grandson, Tyler.
Visitation: 10:00 a.m., January 14, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., January 14, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
