Carl Harold Carlson
February 20, 1929 - October 27, 2013

Harold Carlson, the son of Oscar and Marie Gomer Carlson, was born on February 20, 1929, on a farm near Truesdale, Iowa. He received his education at and graduated from Albert City High School where he enjoyed playing basketball and football. Following his schooling, he entered the United States Army, serving in Italy during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he continued his education at Iowa State University.

On September 16, 1950, Harold married Ruth Challand in Laurens, Iowa. Following their marriage, Harold was called back to duty, serving during the Korean War. After returning from active duty, he worked for Hursom Construction in Laurens and Roth Construction in Storm Lake. He, then, started his own Harold Carlson General Contractor business, which he operated until he retired at age 69.

In his spare time, Harold enjoyed several outdoor activities including going to the lake, fishing, hunting, and boating. He also enjoyed solving puzzles. In 2009, he moved to Spencer to be closer to his family.

On October 27, 2013, Harold passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth, in 1997; and his son, James, in 1979.

Harold is survived by his daughter and her husband, Susan and Mark Nothwehr, of Spencer; his grandchildren: Ben (Jody), Morgan, and Caleb (Amy) Nothwehr; his great grandchildren, Lucy, Mary, and Samuel; his siblings: Lillian Sundstorm, of Houston, Texas, Robert Carlson, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Betty Greene, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Margit (Darrel) Behrens, of Albert City, Iowa.

Visitation: 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Warner Funeral Home.
Funeral services: 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Pastor Paul Kaldahl officiating. Pallbearers: Ben Nothwehr, Morgan Nothwehr, and Caleb Nothwehr.
Interment: Buena Vista Memorial Park, Storm Lake, Iowa. Graveside Military Service at 1:30 pm by AM Vets Post 66, Storm Lake, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School Building Fund.
