LeVerne Chapman
October 2, 1915 – April 13, 2013

LeVerne Chapman, age 97, of Keller, Texas, and formerly of Sioux Rapids, died on April 13, 2013, in Keller, Texas.

LeVerne Oneida Chapman, daughter of Clarence and Mabel (Gilbertson) Niermeyer, was born on October 2, 1915, in Storm Lake. She attended the Rembrandt School through second grade before moving to Sioux Rapids where she graduated in 1933. She, then, attended Waldorf College in Forest City for one year.

LeVerne married Harold Raymond Chapman on December 29, 1941, in Dakota City, Nebraska. Four children were born to this union: Patricia, Gary, Raymond, and Barbara. During their marriage, they lived in Laurens, Sioux Rapids, and Rembrandt. After Harold's death in 1994, LeVerne moved to Spencer where she lived until she moved to Texas in 2002. She resided there until her death.

LeVerne was baptized and confirmed in the United Methodist Church of Sioux Rapids where she remained a member until 1984. At that time, she transferred her membership to the United Methodist Church in Rembrandt where she remained a member until she went to her eternal home. For many years, she taught Sunday school at both churches. She served as the Financial Secretary of the Rembrandt church and as Secretary/Treasurer of the UMW for several years. She actively participated in Bible Study groups.

LeVerne worked in a number of both full-time and part-time positions: as a secretary, a clerk in a dime store, a clerk at a grocery store, Ray's Food Market, an Avon representative, a sales associate for a women's clothing store, Moe's Ready To Wear, and as a sales associate at a men's clothing store, Dale's Clothing.

LeVerne enjoyed working in her flower gardens, reading, playing card games, watching musical programs, going to the movies, playing bingo, and getting together with friends. A pianist, she also sang at vocal recitals when she was younger. Interested in genealogy, she spent many enjoyable hours working on her family tree.

An active volunteer, LeVerne participated in both the RSVP program and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was the 9th District President for the American Legion Auxiliary for one year, the President several times for the American Legion Auxiliary 394 of Sioux Rapids, and Chairwoman for the Junior American Legion Auxiliary for many years. Moreover, she served as President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Buena Vista American Legion Auxiliary. In addition, she was a member of the Women's Study Club of Sioux Rapids and a Cub Scout pack leader.

LeVerne was preceded in death by her parents; her infant brother, Albert; her sister, Viola Kinzer; her husband, Harold; and one grandchild, Andrea. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia, and her husband, Vern Stykel, of Justin, Texas, and Barbara, and her husband, Harold Anderson, of North Richland Hills, Texas; her sons, Gary, and his wife, Susan Chapman, of Meridian, Idaho, and Raymond Chapman, of Wrightstown, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren and their spouses; and ten great grandchildren; as well as by other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids.
