Geneva Betz, age 87, of Albert City, Iowa, died on April 25, 2013, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City.
Geneva Louise Kruse was born on May 5, 1925, to Fred and Hattie (Brummer) Kruse. Raised on the family farm near Albert City, she attended a country school near her home as a child.
On November 9, 1950, Geneva married Phillip Howard Betz at St. John’s United Church of Christ in rural Newell. They were blessed with four children: Linda, June, Betty, and Terry.
A lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Newell until it recently closed, Geneva lived her entire life in the Albert City and Newell area. She, then, enjoyed attending services at the Congregational Church in Newell.
She worked at Pleasant View Nursing Home as an aide, but after a heart attack in 1980, she enjoyed babysitting in her home for many years.
A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she cherished making memories with her family and always took an interest in her grandchildren’s activities. In her retirement, she enjoyed baking delicious bread and going on weekend outings with her family. Taking care of her flower garden and feeding the birds also brought her much joy.
Geneva is survived by her daughters: Linda Gutel, and her husband, Dave, of Storm Lake, June Betz-Calderon, and her husband, Rick, of Houston, Texas, and Betty Swenson, and her husband, Glen, of Albert City; her son, Terry Betz, and his wife, Toni, of Spencer; seven grandchildren: Amy (Dave) Huebner, of Hawarden, Heather (Andres) Torres, of Omaha, Nebraska, Brent Gutel, of Storm Lake, Kyle (Jennifer) Swenson, of Albert City, Karla (Josh) Dahlin, of Ankeny, Ashley Betz, of Vermillion, South Dakota, and Trevor Betz, of Spencer; her great grandson, Levi Huebner; her brothers: Rollie (Ardyce) Kruse and Roger (Jane) Kruse, of Albert City; her sisters: Jeanette Boese, of Storm Lake, and Verna Olson, of Albert City; and her sister-in-law, Arlene (Gilbert) Grienke, of Aurelia; as well as nieces; nephews; many other loving relatives; and friends.
Preceding Geneva in death were her husband, Phillip Betz; her parents, Fred and Hattie Kruse; an infant brother; her parents-in-law, Roy and Catherine Betz; her brothers-in-law: LeRoy Betz, Roger Olson, and Kenneth Boese.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., April 30, 2013, at Our Savior's Lutheran in Albert City, Iowa.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m., April 29, 2013; at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
