Jane Germann, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died February 26, 2013, at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake.
M. Jane Hummel was born on September 1, 1930, in Robinson, Illinois, the daughter of Roland and Velma (Hastings) Hummel. Baptized and confirmed at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Robinson, she attended school in Robinson, graduating second academically in her class from Robinson Township High School in 1948. She, then, attended Purdue University and graduated with a degree in Bacteriology in 1952.
On June 29, 1952, Jane married Larry Germann at her parents’ home in Robinson. They were blessed with three children: Keith, Rob, and Marcy.
Jane was a faithful member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Storm Lake. She served as Brownie Leader for her daughter’s troop, as President of the Buena Vista County Hospital Auxiliary and of the AAUW. She was a member of the board of Faith, Hope, and Charity and was an active member of the Elks Lodge and the Daughters of American Revolution. She served on the Central Committee for the Republican Party of Buena Vista County and on the Parade of Flags Committee.
A regular in bridge and pitch clubs, Jane loved to play cards and taught her children and grandchildren many games. A golf aficionada, she played in women’s leagues and participated in two ball events with her husband for many years.
In her younger years, she spent a good deal of time ferrying boys to and watching them participate in their athletic events. Later in life, she became a fixture in the stands for the ball games in which her grandchildren were participating.
She loved to entertain family and friends in her home and made sure all had enough to eat at these events. A talented cook, she loved to prepare holiday meals for her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Keith (Deb) Germann, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Rob (Cindy) Germann, of Wall Lake, Iowa, and Marcy Gale, of Woodbury, Minnesota; her grandchildren: Heidi (Jeff) Mason, of Chicago, Illinois; Greg Germann, of Iowa City, Iowa, Tonya Germann, of Des Moines, Iowa, Riley Germann, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Molly Germann, of Wall Lake, Iowa, Matthew Yackle, of Woodbury, Minnesota, and Brandon Gale, also of Woodbury, Minnesota; a sister, Josie Legg, of Houston, Texas; and two brothers-in-law: Roland (Judy) Germann, of Junction City, Kansas, and Charles (Theresa) Germann, of Eureka, Illinois; as well as extended family and many friends.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Larry, in 2001.
Visitation: 5:00-8:00 p.m., February 28, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., March 01, 2013, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
