George B. King, age 77, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on December 18, 2012, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

George Bernard King was born on August 21, 1935, in Winona, Minnesota, the son of Frederick Joseph and Mary Clare (Ryan) King. He was baptized in Winona, Minnesota, where he was later confirmed.

After graduating from Cotter High School in Winona with the class of 1953, he attended St. Mary’s College in Winona. Afterward, he joined the United States Air Force on October 19, 1955, serving his country until his honorable discharge on October 18, 1959.

On August 20, 1960, George married Barbara E. Walter in Winona. They were blessed with two children: Elizabeth and Colin.

A 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, George served as Grand Knight. At Iowa State University, he was also a honorary member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.

George worked with Federated Insurance and later United Fire and Casualty as an Insurance Adjustor, retiring after forty years of service. In 1969, he moved his family to Storm Lake. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing golf. He also enjoyed calling bingo at St. Mary’s and the KC Hall. A supportive person, he always carried a positive attitude.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Barbara King, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Elizabeth (Dennis Kennan) King-Kennan, of Shelton, Connecticut, and Colin (Carrie) King, of Urbandale, Iowa; two grandchildren: Thomas and Emily King; and a sister, Anne King, and her friend, Wally Burley, of Winona, Minnesota; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: William, James, Fred, John, and Thomas; four sisters: Elsa Pahler, Jean Fedders, Shelia Watkowski, and Olga Neville.

Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m., December 21, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., December 22, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Vigil Service: 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m., December 21, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
