Kenneth Kruse

Services for Kenneth Nels Kruse, 74, Storm Lake, were held Saturday, Sept. 5, in the Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Storm Lake. Rev. Duane Queen officiated. Burial was in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery, Storm Lake. Graveside military rites were given by Storm Lake Amvets Post #66. Sliefert Funeral Home, Storm Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

He died Wednesday, Sept. 2, at his home in Storm Lake.

Kenneth was born July 4, 1918, on a farm in Elk Township of Buena Vista County to Axel S. and Charolette (Carlberg) Kruse. He received his education in Fairview Grade School and graduated from Alta High School in the Class of 1936. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II from 1942-46. He was a member of Amvets Post #66 and served as a past Commander. He was a member of American Legion #115; Scottish Rite Bodies; 32-degree Masons, Sioux City; Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, Sioux City; and a 50-year member of Jewel Lodge #309 - Al & AM. When he returned from World War II, he owned and operated Kruse Inn, Battle Creek, then returned to Storm Lake and worked as parts manager for International Harvester. From 1950-76, until his retirement, he worked for D-X Gas Co. as a bulk agent in Storm Lake.

He married Virginia Cook in Maxwell. To this union, three daughters were born. In 1961, he married Janis Anderson-Bush, Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister — Louise Kruse, Alta.

Survivors include his wife — Janis; three daughters — Dorina (Mrs. Arthur) Barba, Laurelynn (Mrs. Ron) Balderrama, and Vicki (Ms. Dorion) Takeshita, all of California; one step-daughter — Patricia (Mrs. Gerald) Phipps, Cherokee; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters — Gladys (Mrs. James) Larson, Alta; and Lucille Witt, Battle Creek; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
