Lois N. Schomaker
October 9, 1923 ~ June 25, 2019 (age 95)

Lois N. Schomaker, age 95, of Linn Grove, Iowa, died on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa.

Lois Nadine Schomaker, a daughter of Dow and Floy Smithers Woodard, was born on October 9, 1923, in Earling, Iowa. After graduating from Dunlap High School in 1941, she attended Buena Vista College where she earned a degree. Throughout her career, Lois worked as a bookkeeper. On July 19, 1945, she married Henry Clair Schomaker in Jackson, Minnesota. Subsequently, they were blessed with six children: Diane, Nadine, Kathryn, Paul, Julia, and Mark.

In 1955, Lois was confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church. Until her passing, however, Lois belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove. In addition, for many years, she participated in the Linn Grove and Sioux Rapids Dinner Date Program and hosted “coffee time” in downtown Linn Grove.

In her free time, Lois enjoyed family gatherings, reading, and sewing. She, also, loved to travel and visited every state in the nation (all by automobile, except for Alaska and Hawaii).

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Diane (John) Lindahl, of Linn Grove, Iowa, Nadine (Dan) Von Seggern, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Julia (Greg) Gillespie, of Hartley, Iowa, and Mark (Kathy) Schomaker, of Puyallup, Washington; her sister, Lola (Robert) Williams, of Denver, Colorado; her grandchildren: Paula Brown, Peter Grimm, Scott (Sharon) Thompson, Laura (Ron) Klein, Angela Turner, Kristina Schomaker, Tonya (Kevin) Rowe, Jason (Carrie) Gillespie, Sarah (Phil) Andersen, Seth (fiancée, Jordan Bates) Gillespie, Amy (Matt) Johnson, and Carrie (Kris) Hagel; her great-grandchildren: Magdalene (John) Alton; Chad (Heather), Eli, Emily, Heather, and Zachary (Kyara) Brown; Chelsey (Riley) Greene; Anthony (Sarah Katschman) Grimm; LauraGene (Tanner) Haas; Callen and Stella Johnson; Patrick and Rebecca Mackling; Asher, Isaac, and Olivia Rowe; Cameron, Danielle, and Shelton Thompson, Josef (Bobbie Jo) Vomacka; and Cassandra (Drew) Wick; her great-great-grandchildren: Eleanor Alton; Cynthia Ahlman; Carlin and Jackson Greene; Nora and Olivia Haas; Demetry Thompson; Dominic Vomacka; Andrew, EmmaClair, and Stanley Wicks; her sisters-in-law, Jeanne and Phyllis Woodard; and her brother-in-law, Russell Paulson; as well as extended family members and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Schomaker; her parents, Dow and Floy Woodard; her daughter, Kathryn Schomaker; her son, Paul Schomaker; her grandson, John Grimm; her granddaughter, Katherine Vomacka; her brothers, Vernon and Merlyn Woodard; her sister, Glenda Paulson; her brother-in-law, Delbert (Mabel) Schomaker; and her sister-in-law, LuVa (Marvin) Freeman.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove. Burial will follow in the Barnes Township Cemetery at Linn Grove. Visitation is scheduled before the service from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is overseeing the arrangements.
