Billy Joe "B.J." Stevicks, age 57, died on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

B.J. was born on April 3, 1962, in Humboldt, Nebraska, to Bill and Ann (McMurray) Stevicks. Growing up, B.J. attended school at Dawson-Verdon, Nebraska, graduating from Dawson-Verdon High School in 1980. Next, B.J. attended Northwest Missouri State where he completed a degree in 1986. He, then, continued his education earning a master’s degree from Wayne State College.

On June 21, 1986, B.J. married Susan Mary Reiter at the Church of the Resurrection in Pocahontas, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children: Lakin Elizabeth, Jaimie Ann, and Taylor Lee.

B.J. enjoyed outdoor activities, especially fishing, camping, gardening, and golfing. In his spare time, he loved woodworking and fixing things. Often, he would be cheering on the Huskers, Chiefs, or Bearcat football teams and the Royals baseball team. In addition, he enjoyed watching the Food Network and cooking with his grill and smoker. He loved a good rare steak with a cold beer.

B.J. taught and coached at the Alta-Aurelia Community School for many years, mentoring many students and encouraging them to become the best they could. Moreover, he made his family the center of his life. He, very much, cherished and loved his parents, wife, children, and grandchildren. He valued his children, and he treasured attending their activities and supporting them. B.J., also, loved playing games and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be, lovingly, remembered as a son, husband, father, dad, grandpa, brother, teacher, coach, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Bill and Ann Stevicks, of Dawson, Nebraska; his wife, Sue Stevicks, of Alta, Iowa; his children: Lakin Stevicks (Tony), of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Jaimie Stevicks (Juan), of Emmetsburg, and Taylor Stevicks, of Sheldon, Iowa; his grandchildren: Blake James, Brooklynn LeAnn, Autumn Mae, Ayane, and Cienna; his honorary grandchildren: Jordan, Audri, and Elijah Kennedy; his sisters, Geri (Steven) Kean, of Dawson, Nebraska, and Marci (Rob) Reed, of Two Rivers, Wisconsin; his parents-in-law, Jerry and Nancy Reiter; and his brothers-in-law: Scott (Joni) Reiter, of Dodge City, Kansas, Stewart (Lori) Reiter, of Warrensburg, Missouri, and Sean (Malia) Reiter, of West Haven, Utah; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other close family members, and friends. B.J. is preceded in death by his grandparents.

Memorial services will be held Monday, May 20, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Alta-Aurelia High School Gym in ALTA. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
