Marjorie Roberts, age 88, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on May 2, 2019, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa.

Marjorie Jean Adams, a daughter of Hubert and Elsie (McDanel) Adams, was born in Alliance, Nebraska, on December 7, 1930. At an early age, she moved with her family to Linn Grove, Iowa, living her youth in Linn Grove and Webb, Iowa. After graduating from Linn Grove High School, she married Russell James Roberts on October 2, 1949, in Linn Grove, Iowa. Subsequently, their union was blessed with seven children and a foster daughter: Kathleen, Dennis, Debra, Rebecca, Linda, Shelley, Michael, and Barbara. Following their wedding, Marge and Russ lived in Cornell, Iowa, for a short time before moving to Sioux Rapids where Russ farmed and managed the local elevator. A devoted wife and mother, Marge made a loving home for her family. An Avon representative, she cooked at several restaurants as well.

A member of the First United Church of Sioux Rapids, Marge, also, had a special interest in painting, embroidering, baking, playing Yahtzee, dominoes, and various card games, golfing, and hosting city council festivities. She, absolutely, loved fishing up until she reached her early 80s. Most of all, everyone who knew Marge will remember she always had a very welcoming and hospitable gift for hosting and entertaining people in her home. Anyone who ever needed a place to stay would find in Marge a welcoming hostess. She prided herself in looking nice and enjoyed having her hair fixed and her fingernails manicured and polished. She, always, dressed very stylishly.

Marge’s life is lovingly remembered and celebrated by her family which includes her children: Kathy Clark, of Lakin, Kansas, Dennis (Karen) Roberts, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Debra Roberts and Jim Wise, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Becky Roberts, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Linda (Scott) Carstensen, of Hartley, Iowa, Shelley Roberts and Jack Widder, of Gilbert, Arizona, and Michael (Jill) Roberts, of Mesa, Arizona; her foster son-in-law, Bob Dye; twenty-three grandchildren; forty-three great grandchildren; and one “soon to be” great, great grandchild; two brothers, Richard (Millie) Adams, of Fairmont, Minnesota, and Pete (Pat) Adams, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and a sister, Pat (Ron) Reese, of Laurens, Iowa; as well as other extended family members and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell; her foster daughter, Barbara Dye; two granddaughters, Stacy Todd and Amanda Olds; and two grandsons, Christian and Paul.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will follow in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place Friday, May 17, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in SIOUX RAPIDS. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
