Thomas "Grub” Adams, age 70, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on Friday, May 10, 2019, at his home in Sioux Rapids.

Thomas James Adams, a son of James and Florence (Jones) Adams, was born on February 1, 1949, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Growing up, he attended school in Eagle Grove. On August 14, 1967, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving until his honorable discharge on August 13, 1969. During that time, Tom advanced to the rank of Lance Corporal.

After returning home from Vietnam, Tom began driving a 5-star general to and from the Pentagon. Once back in Iowa, he worked at several different jobs including making feed at Primico, driving a ready-mix truck for Geise Construction, building elevators, and working for The Chrome Horse on Tater Gilmores pit crew. He finished his working career at Simonsen Iron Works in Sioux Rapids. After retiring because of his declining health, he spent most of his time building custom choppers. Then, Tom and Jesse, his youngest boy, spent a lot of time helping each other. Jesse would help Tom with his health and Tom would help Jesse with his bike building skills. Together, they made a great team.

With his first wife, Faye Ollinger, Tom had one son, Brian. With his second wife, Constance Adams, he had three children: Alan, Jesse, and Gracie. Then, on January 30, 1993, Tom married his soulmate, Barbara Fahlenkamp, in Spencer, Iowa.

Tom loved his family, motorcycles, and the Marine Corps in addition to traveling with his wife, Barb, across the United States on two wheels. A member of the motorcycle club, the Spencer Bunch, he, also, liked riding with the other members. A simple and very direct man, he, always, let his friends know where they stood with him.

Those left to cherish his memory include Barbara Adams, his wife of twenty-six years; his children: Brian (Serena), Alan (Valerie), and Jesse Adams, and Gracie (Jesse) Dammann; his brother, Steven (Vicky) Adams; his sisters, Marie (Gordon) Reed and Judy (Robert) Asche; and his grandchildren: Arian, Brooke, Joshua, Jude, and Trinten Adams; Jaida Dammann; Alex and MaKayla Francis; and MacKinzie Wethor; as well as extended family members and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, James and Florence Adams; his brother, Duane Adams; and his grandson, Travis Adams.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. A private family interment will follow in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
