Bill Chindlund
June 1, 1928 - April 19, 2019

Cecil William (Bill) Chindlund passed peacefully to his heavenly home on April 19, 2019.

Bill was born to Leslie (LW) and Pearl Gaffey Chindlund on June 1, 1928, in Storm Lake, Iowa. A proud 1946 graduate of Hayes Community School, he wed his faithful lifetime bride, Betty J. Pollard, on July 24, 1949. This union brought forth seven children.

Bill had a passion for farming, which he pursued alongside his father and grandparents from his youth. His interests and talents in machinery, also, led him to designing, refurbishing, and dealing in farm and truck equipment. In turn, his zeal evolved into a long-lasting commitment to selling trucks and farm equipment. Always a fixture at the Clay County Fair, he loved people and served as an active board member of the Farm Bureau for over forty years.

When not laboring in the field or the shop, Bill, a man who never met a stranger, always, enjoyed sharing jokes and stories with anyone who would listen. He, also, liked the Albert City Threshermen’s and Collectors’ Shows, high school basketball, and the precious time he spent visiting with family and friends, especially over a good meal and some pie.

Faithful members of Center Grove Evangelical Free Church and later of the Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake, Bill and his family attended services regularly and grew in their faith throughout the years.

Bill is survived by Betty J. Chindlund, his wife of nearly seventy years; his children: Alan (Barb) Chindlund, of Marshfield, Missouri, Annie Bade, of Denver, Colorado, Susan (Craig) Boyd, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Norm Chindlund, of Spencer, Iowa, Jeff (Jean) Chindlund, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Joan (Jeff) Haugen, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and Jennifer (Rod) Hartwig, of Panora, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren with ten spouses; twenty-two great-grandchildren; his sister, Jean Grundmeier, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and his sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Roy Vogel, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; as well as by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Lois; his sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Cliff Gibbons; and his brother-in-law, Kenny Grundmeier.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, April 26, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
