Pauline H. Alkire, age 85, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and formerly of Aurelia, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 24, 2019, in Council Bluffs.

Pauline H. Cone was born on January 18, 1934, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Leonard and Hulda (Grieme) Cone. Baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake and later confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, she attended the Hayes Township School, graduating in 1951. Then, on August 26, 1951, she married Burrell Alkire in Storm Lake. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Tim, Vicky, David, and Michael. As a family, they moved to a farm northeast of Aurelia.

A member of the United Methodist Church in Aurelia, Pauline taught Sunday school and participated in the women’s ministry groups. She enjoyed homemaking and working with Burrell on the family farm. In addition, she liked square dancing with Burrell. An accomplished seamstress, she made many a square dance dress. Moreover, throughout her life, she loved playing cards. Pauline will, indeed, be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Tim (Nancy) Alkire, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Vicky (Randy) Hoskin, of Farmington, Iowa, and Michael Alkire; her grandchildren: Mark (Jessica Smeyser) Alkire, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Lisa Alkire, of Bremerton, Washington, and Lindsay (Mitch) Weller, of Arvada, Colorado; her step-grandchildren: Todd (Jenn) Hoskin, of Farmington, Iowa, and Ryan Hoskin and Kari (Scott) Smith, of New Orleans, Louisiana; her step-great grandchildren: Kinsley and Grant Smith, of New Orleans, Louisiana; and her sisters-in-law: Pat Cone, of Alta, Iowa, and Joanne Christman, of St. James, Minnesota; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Hulda Cone; her husband, Burrell; an infant son, David; a brother, Carroll Cone; two sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 28, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in ALTA.
