Ordell Clarence Weiland
March 15, 1948 - March 17, 2019Ordell Clarence Weiland, age 71, of Alta, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Ordell was born on March 15, 1948, in Laurens, Iowa, to Clarence and Pearl (Johns) Weiland. Baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta, he remained a lifelong member.
After attending school in Alta, Ordell enlisted in the United States Navy on December 27, 1967, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge on December 4, 1969. On September 26, 1970, he married Mary Christensen at the Baptist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children: Jody, Cory, and Tammy.
In his spare time, Ordell enjoyed attending auctions and collecting antiques and other fine merchandise. Moreover, he loved his family and treasured spending time with them. Without a doubt, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Weiland, of Alta, Iowa; his children: Jody Childs, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Cory (Mindy) Weiland, also of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Tammy Kempadoo, of Urbandale, Iowa; his grandchildren: Mason Childs; Cade, Carter, and Makenly Weiland; and Cara Kempadoo; and his siblings: Sally (Mark) Johnson, of Bushnell, Nebraska, Marlin (Marty) Weiland, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Richard (Kathy Thompson) Weiland, of Sun City, Arizona; as well as extended family members and many friends.
Ordell was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Eileen Weiland; a granddaughter, Piper Kempadoo; a grandson, Conner Weiland; his parents-in-law, Clifford and Janice Christensen; and a sister-in-law, Jeanine Christensen.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta. Burial will follow in the Elk Township Cemetery in rural Alta. Visitation will take place Thursday, March 21, 2019, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in ALTA. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta is overseeing the arrangements.
