William Lewis O’Meara
March 1, 1928 - March 15, 2019William "Bill" O'Meara, age 91, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, March 15, 2019, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
William Lewis O’Meara, a son of William and Viola (Schuelke) O’Meara, was born on March 1, 1928, in Galva, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Holstein, he attended grade school and high school in Galva, graduating in 1945. Then, he enlisted in the Navy to serve his country. Stationed in Hawaii for two years, he went on to serve for four more years in the reserves.
On February 3, 1951, Bill married Beverly Daugaard in Holstein. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Debra, Connie, Teresa, and Mary.
Central to his life, his Catholic faith, also, became an inspiration to his family and friends. A member of the Knights of Columbus, he served as a eucharistic minister as well.
For twenty years, he worked for Hygrade and later for IBP/Tyson. At other times, he served as postmaster, milk delivery man for a creamery in Holstein, insurance salesman, and publisher of the Galva Shopper. All in all, he worked until he was eighty-nine years old weighing trucks at Tyson.
Bill loved golf which he played or practiced any time he could. In addition, other sports played a major role in his life whether he was watching his grandkids play, following games on tv, or listening to broadcasts on the radio. Moreover, he had a big, tender heart. Kind and compassionate towards others, he, generously, gave of his time, talents, and resources to help others. He was a true Irishman.
“Son of a buck”….. He will, definitely, be missed deeply.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Connie (Steve) Sippel, of Schaller, Iowa, Teresa Mahn, of Pflugerville, Texas, and Mary (Kevin) Richardson, of Hillsboro, Oregon; his brothers, Gerald (Rose) O’Meara, of Schaller, Iowa, and Ron (LaVonne) O’Meara, of Hinton, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Dorothy O’Meara, of Rochester, Minnesota; his grandchildren: Sarah (Adam) Babcock; Marissa (Jack) Billups; Chelsea (Sturgis) Cunningham; Jason (Patti) Mahn; Alexander and Simone (Andrew) Richardson; and Daniel, Nicholas, and Thomas Sippel; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as extended family members and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Viola; his wife, Beverly; his brother, Jim O’Meara; his daughter, Debra O’Meara; and his son-in-law, Richard Mahn.
Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and very dear. – An Irish Blessing
