Michael Joseph Dick, age 67, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, March 15, 2019, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Michael, a son of Albert and Dorothy (Blass) Dick, was born on April 26, 1951, in Carroll, Iowa. Baptized as an infant at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early and later confirmed there as well, he attended grade school at Sacred Heart. In 1969, however, he graduated from Crestland High School. Next, he attended lineman school.

On May 27, 1971, Michael, wanting to serve his country, enlisted in the United States Army. After completing his active duty, he served in the Iowa National Guard until his honorable discharge on July 14, 1978. On May 10, 1975, he married Jan Vanderhoff in Newell, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children, Brenda and Brad. For forty years, Michael worked for MidAmerican Energy before he retired in 2013.

A member of the Buena Vista County Rifle and Pistol Club, Michael often helped with the kids’ events. In his free time, he loved interacting with his grandchildren since he valued his family. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, working on automobiles, camping, and spending time with his dogs. Moreover, he, always, liked listening to Classic Rock music and taking Jan dancing.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jan Dick, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children, Brenda (Kevin) Lullmann, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Brad (Jaimee) Dick, of Spirit Lake, Iowa; his sister, Jean (Bert) Martin, of Sac City, Iowa; his grandchildren: Taylor (fiancée, Jenna Falline) Lullmann; Ashley (Gable) Bonner; and Skyler, Isabella, and Samantha Dick; as well as extended family members and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Dorothy; and an infant sister, Barbara.

Best man I’ve ever met. Love Jan.
