Betty Lou Archer, age 86, of Schaller, Iowa, died on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in Newell, Iowa.

Betty, a daughter of Elmer and Virginia (Lake) Pewsey, was born on February 23, 1932, in Storm Lake, Iowa. She grew up in the Truesdale area where she attended grade school and high school. In 1949, she graduated from Truesdale High School. Then, while taking nursing classes, she met Evans Archer. On December 29, 1951, she married him in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with six children: Catherine, Douglas, Richard, David, Gary, and Steve. Regrettably, Evans died on November 10, 1969. Then, on May 5, 1970, she married William “Bill” Archer in Luverne, Minnesota. They were blessed with one daughter, Ann. In her free time, Betty loved gardening, knitting, and embroidering. In addition, she enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and going on trips to the casino.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Catherine (Timothy) Bloom, of Cherokee, Iowa, Douglas (Sue Zemke) Archer, of Newell, Iowa, Richard (Rhonda) Archer, of Bricelyn, Minnesota, David (Joy) Archer, of Lakeside, Iowa, Gary Archer, of Schaller, Iowa, Steve Archer, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Ann (Barry) Shumate, of Dow City, Iowa; her brother, Robert Pewsey, of Pomeroy, Iowa; her sister, Becky Ranck, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; ten grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as extended family members and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Evans and William “Bill” Archer.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place before the service from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Betty's name. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
