Norbert Huseman
November 20, 1932 - November 10, 2018

Norbert Jean Huseman, age 85, of Galva, Iowa, died on Saturday, November 10, 2018, in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Norbert Huseman, a son of Walter and Florence (Frese) Huseman, was born on November 20, 1932, at home on the family farm. Baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, he attended grade school in Alta and then graduated from Alta High School in 1952. Next, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving from May of 1953 to 1961. He met Iris Pettifer, his future wife, while stationed in Wellingborough, England, during the Korean War.

Norbert and Iris married on January 15, 1955, in Wellingborough, England. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Carol, Christina, Curt, and Colin. Always known as a joker, Norbert loved teasing both family and friends. Otherwise, in his free time, he enjoyed playing cards and games with them. Indeed, nothing mattered more to Norbert than his faith and his family. In 1978, he joined St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva. He will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Curt (Julie) Huseman, and grandson, Dalton, and granddaughter, Jaiden, all of Boone, Iowa; his grandson, Jedadiah Hammen, of Grimes, Iowa, granddaughter, Amanda (Carter) Van Fossen, and husband, Nathan, and great granddaughter, Morgan, all of Boone, Iowa, and grandson, Dale Carter, also of Boone, Iowa; his brother, Loren Huseman, of Ohio; and his sister, Janice Warneke, of Nebraska; as well as extended family members.

Norbert was preceded in death by his wife, Iris; his son, Colin Huseman; his daughters, Carol Hammen and Christina Carter; his sisters: Darlene Neulieb, Lavonne Otto, and Myra Annable; and his brother, Malvern Huseman.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 16, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva. Burial will follow in the church cemetery in rural Galva with full military rites. Visitation will take place Thursday, November 15, 2018, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., all at the church in Galva. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
