Joanne C. Boger, age 87, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, July 16, 2018, at her home in Storm Lake.

Joanne Boger, a daughter of John and Carolina (Kies) Gerdes, was born on March 11, 1931, in Storm Lake. She attended grade school and high school in Lake View, Iowa, graduating in 1948. On October 7, 1950, she married William Boger in Champaign, Illinois. Subsequently, they were blessed with five children: Michael, Ronald, Joni, Thomas, and Patti.

A member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Joanne, primarily, participated in Circle Number 3. She, also, helped with the special occasion committees, special missions, the memorial committee, and the Reader’s Group. Moreover, she served as a communion steward. In addition, she, also, belonged to the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.

Joanne and Bill enjoyed a marriage that lasted for fifty-nine years. They spent numerous days traveling around the United States and were fortunate enough to travel to Europe, Canada, and Mexico as well. In their later years, they divided their time between Storm Lake and the warm climate of south Texas where they relaxed and socialized with friends and family.

In her free time, Joanne loved to socialize by having people over and going out for lunch and breakfast with her friends. Her hobbies included collecting nativity sets and anything with butterflies. When she wasn’t socializing with friends, she liked to shop, cook, bake, and read. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Ronald Boger, of Boerne, Texas, Joni (Allan) Walquist, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Thomas (Cynthia Grossman) Boger, of San Antonio, Texas; her grandchildren: Katie (Andres) Amador; Aaron (Stacey), Brandon, Gavin, and Ryan (Roxanne) Boger; Christopher (Adrianna) Grossman; Whitney (Mark) Guvernator; Alysia Hess; Brett (Candance) Kleespies; Tollie (Brandon) Turnquist; Tara (Adam) Walker; Carrie (Michael) Walsh; her great-grandchildren: Ben, Westley, and Zory Amador; Ayden, Barrett, Declan, Easton, Ethan, Justice, Maddie, and Noah Boger; Deshon Buchanan; Ashley (Abe) Guvernator Cisneros; Elise and Lilianna Grossman; Chandler (Aspen), EJ (Rosalie), and Kaylan Guvernator; Jaxson and Paisley Kleespies; Brock and Connor Turnquist; and Addie and Ellie Walsh; and her great-great-grandchild, Rex Guvernator; her brother, Kenneth Gerdes, of Denver, Colorado; her brother-in-law, James Boger, of Denison, Iowa; and her sisters-in-law: Shirley McBride, of Kenosha, Wisconsin; Lois Catero, of Mesa, Arizona; Cheri Boger, of Willard, Missouri; and Marjorie (Luverne) Rydberg, of Alta, Iowa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, William Boger; her son, Michael Boger; her daughter, Patti Devine; her parents, John and Carolina (Kies) Gerdes; her sister, Alice Andrews; and her brothers, Alvin and Arnold “Pete” Gerdes.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 19, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
